Real Weddings

from the bride, Maggie… “Ryan and I met in high school, our freshman year, at a football game where our schools were playing against each other. We later began to date during the summer following sophomore year before going our separate ways to allow ourselves to grow up. Once college came around, I was attending school in Indiana and Ryan in Michigan, we decided we were ready to give our relationship another chance and have been together ever since. It sounds cliche to say ‘when you know, you know,’ but I can honestly say that my life would not be near as wonderful as it is today without Ryan, I truly believe he makes me the best version of myself. We got engaged in Disney world about 7 years after reconnecting. Ryan organized a scavenger hunt where he correlated places and things in Disney World to our relationship. Every clue was in an envelope with one of the last envelope leading me to Magic Kingdom and finally to Cinderella’s Castle for dinner. While at dinner, there was still one envelope left so I assumed what I hoped to be a proposal was not happening at the restaurant. Before I knew it, I was surrounded by a photographer and waitstaff and Ryan down on one knee. He made our engagement a real life fairy tale and night I will never forget. When we began planning our wedding, Ryan and I had already been dating for 7 years so we had a pretty good idea of what each other wanted out of this very special day. Since we were getting married in northern Michigan and were already surrounded by such natural beauty we didn’t have to take time to cover anything up, we simply needed to enhance the beauty that surrounded us. We chose subtle shades of blush, peach and white with accents of mint green and light blue to add a little romance to our venues. My bridesmaids wore mint green and a light teal blue which looked absolutely amazing, especially when we stopped to take photos by Lake Michigan on our way from Crystal Mountain, where our ceremony was hosted, to our reception at Arcadia Bluffs. I had so much fun getting ready with my bridesmaids in the morning but when it came time to meet Ryan for our first look that’s when the emotion set in. I was excited to see him, nervous to see if our vision for the ceremony, reception and after party came together, and anxious hoping he liked my dress and hoping I looked every bit the part of the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Once I finally saw him all of those emotions disappeared. I was standing in front of the man I loved and would spend the rest of my life with and nothing else mattered. That was, by far, my favorite moment of the day.”
